If anyone tries to tell you that Lafayette is a “little” town, let them know they should jump in my car for a ride-along on a Tuesday Tour day. I spent over three hours, ½ tank of gas, and 2 CDs of my audio book driving around in Lafayette today.
Tuesday is Tour day for Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Rossmoor, Concord, Martinez, and Clayton—you’d need rocket fuel to see all the homes that are open between 10:00 and 2:00.
But even just sweet little Lafayette can be a challenge in the time allotted. There were 11 homes on tour today, and I saw them all—but I was reminded how far and wide Lafayette’s borders really are.
I started the day on Sanford St—a stunning newer home with a gorgeous backyard, located near 24 on the Walnut Creek border. From there, I travelled as far South as Castello (updated rancher with a tranquil backyard near the Moraga border), and as far North as Teigland (short sale with a quirky floorplan on the Pleasant Hill border), and as far west as Lorinda Lane (pretty house with acreage and views on the Orinda border).
Twice I found myself switchbacking up long narrow roads, both very worthwhile efforts. One home was, if not on a mountain top, then it felt like it. Views to forever, a tennis court (my dream home will have one of these), privacy, and water features. Priced north of $8 million, and felt like it. The other home also had spectacular views, plus a pool, a guest house, and the home was absoluely gorgeous.
It was a race to make all 11 houses before the time ran out, but I did so, and felt that there were many great new listings on the market. It was a good day: The Reversal by Michael Connelly played on my CD player between stops, and I was well-fed. I’m still licking my lips over the thought of the cheesecake at my first stop. It was a busy tour day, with 51 homes on Tour in the area in total—so is inventory beginning to climb? Lafayette, along with Danville and Rossmoor, show a slight increase. But every other town is down this week. Here are the latest numbers:
Alamo – 49 (-1)
